A former governor of Akwa Ibom State, Godswill Akpabio, has emerged as the Senate Preselect of the 10th Assembly. Akpabio was the preferred candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress. Akpabio was sworn in as the Senate Preselect after garnering 63 votes, leaving his rival, Yari Abdulaziz, with 46 votes.
