Chief Lekan Balogun has been crowned the 42nd Olubadan of Ibadan in a colorful ceremony in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
The event on Friday drew many people to the ancient Mapo Hall, to witness the installation of a new monarch for the city following the death of Oba Saliu Adetunji on January 2. Some of those present at the event were Vice President Yemi Osinbajo; Chairman of the Governor’s Forum Governor, Kayode Fayemi; Governor Dapo Abiodun, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi; Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi; and the Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar. The Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Rauf Olaniyan, and the Speaker of state House of Assembly, Adebo Ogundoyin, were also present. Balogun was presented with the staff of office and instrument of office, making Lekan Balogun the new Olubadan of Ibadan. The new monarch in his address, said, “I will not let Ibadan down, I will not let Nigeria down, I thank Vice-President who came to represent the President, the former Vice President, the Ooni, Alaafin, and other dignitaries present here.”
