The Supreme Court’s judgement on financial autonomy for local government is a victory for democracy. It is also a victory for true federalism which most Nigerians yearn for. It is indeed a welcome development that the caretaker committee arrangement, which is strange to the 1999 Constitution, will no longer be used to choose officials of the local governments.
