Update: Court awards N10m to man who sued DSS and Buhari

A Federal High Court sitting in Asaba, Delta state, has awarded the sum of N10m to a businessman, Anthony Okolie who was allegedly detained by the Department of State Services (DSS) for using a sim card previously used by President Buhari's daughter, Hanan Buhari. Recall that on July 19, 2019, Okolie, an Asaba-based businessman was arrested by the DSS and detained for using a telephone line that was previously owned by Hanan. According to Okolie, he remained in custody, bound by handcuffs till September 22, 2019- a period of 10 weeks, without any charge as the DSS waited for Hanan who was schooling in the UK as at the time.

The Minister of Health Dr Osagie Ehanire on Thursday, May 14 said that the 15-member Chinese doctors who are still in the country are not guests of the Nigerian government. Speaking at the daily briefing of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 in Abuja, Ehanire disclosed that the Chinese medics are a staff of the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC). He further revealed that they are in Nigeria on a Company visa.

Madagascar asks Nigeria to pay N78.2m for COVID-19 herbal remedy

The Republic of Madagascar has asked Nigeria to pay 170,000 Euros (78,200,000 Naira) for the COVID-19 drugs sent to the Federal Government. The quantity of the consignment sent to Nigeria through Guinea Bissau could not be ascertained. However, according to The Nation, the cost for the quantity sent is 78,200,000 Naira. Guinea Bissau President Umaro Sissoco Embalo, who visited President Muhammadu Buhari at the State House in Abuja on Saturday, brought the drugs allocated to Nigeria by Madagascar.

PDP gives FG 48-hour to declare Chinese doctors’ whereabouts


The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has given the Federal Government a 48-hour ultimatum to state the whereabouts of the Chinese medical team brought in purportedly to assist in the fight against the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic in the country. In a statement released by its spokesperson Kola Ologbondiyan, PDP said its position is predicated on the alarming declaration by the Minister of Health, Dr Osagie Ehanire, that he cannot account for the whereabouts of the Chinese doctors who were brought into the country from the epicentre of the pandemic, despite repeated warnings and disapprovals by medical experts and professional bodies.
